I'm rather old and by now I've seen so many previously-admired celebs turn into raving caricatures of themselves, I figure it must be fame + drugs + undiagnosed trauma. She was a victim of csa, and maybe never dealt with it.

R2 Yes she's got major trauma. I think she's quite adorable, but she's also been insufferable over the years. I didn't read her autobiography per se, but I read about it, and it sounds like she talks very frankly about her childhood. How it impacted her choices as an adult, her self esteem, her career, her relationships and her parenting. Respect and props for her honesty and reflection.

Her biography was great. She’s seems like a naturally happy person that has some massive trauma coping issues, but who doesn’t?!

She's always come across as a bit of a space cadet with self-esteem issues, but as others said, harmless—she's always seemed genuinely nice and humble. She strikes me as the type to turn their pain inward on themselves rather than project it onto those around them.

So unrelated to this thread I stumbled upon the information from her bio that some guy paid her mother five hundred dollars to give him access to rape her when she was fifteen and on they way out he even told her what she had done.

Her mother was the absolute worst. I don't think she's ditzy. Child abuse victims try to make themselves seem less threatening to their abusers by infantilising themselves. She just never out-grew that. You can tell that even though she was their responsible parent, her kids see her as the one in need of nurturing. It's a coping strategy to stay safe they rarely unlearn

She does seem harmless and I thought the hysteria over her doing whip-its was ridiculous. People were basically calling her weak and stupid for having a seizure.

There was a year or two in there where it seemed like everybody was out to take her down, like they all decided she was a nasty old loser who needed to be ridiculed daily, and I couldn't understand why. No one I knew in real life or social media disliked her, or even seemed to think about her much at all, yet the press was constant, always "her daughters are fed up" and "she refuses to take responsibility for what she's done."

And yet no one really pieced together the fact that Ashton went on to marry someone he'd worked with on a TV show for years, and had probably been sleeping with for a long time. Of course, Mila bitched to the press about Demi's autobiography in that cunty way she always has, which made me wonder if Mila and Ashton weren't behind some of that terrible press Demi got years ago.

The funniest thing about that is the American version of that photo had more hair airbrushed in because of pornography laws, making it look like she had a couple of poodles down there. The original version (German, I think?) is far less hairy and shows all of the goods.

I think the issue with Demi is also the fact she's a woman in Hollywood. We all know Hollywood does not allow women to age. Unless, of course, you are genuinely talented and have a lot of currency in the film industry like Glenn Close, Kathy Bates, Judi Dench and Meryl Streep. Demi Moore was never a talent but was pretty with a dark hair and green eyes contrast, had a distinctive voice and very marketable for her looks. She was a movie star, a brand. Men who are movie stars like Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Keanu Reeves, Clint Eastwood and Demi's ex Bruce Willis are allowed to be mediocre and serviceable actors into middle age and even into elderly age. While women like Demi Moore, Julia Roberts, Sharon Stone, Kathleen Turner, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry and many others have to work harder and harder to gain roles as they age and are replaced by younger prettier actresses like Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Emma Stone, Elizabeth Olsen and Blake Lively.
