DALLAS — For fans of the Neiman Marcus' historic Downtown Dallas flagship store, Christmas has come early.
Neiman Marcus' parent company, Saks Global, says the 100-plus-year-old Downtown Dallas landmark at 1618 Main St. will remain open past the 2025 holiday season as the company and the city work on plans for its future.
“We continue to have productive conversations with the City of Dallas to potentially reimagine the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas location. The store will remain open past the 2025 Holiday season while this process continues in 2026. We remain committed to serving our loyal Dallas customers and look forward to sharing more soon," a Saks Global spokesperson said in a statement.
The future of the store has been up in the air since early this year, when Saks Global announced in February that it initially intended to close the store in March. In conjunction with those plans, Saks Global also announced big renovation plans for the Neiman Marcus NorthPark Center store.
“Neiman Marcus didn’t just grow in Dallas — it helped position Dallas for the global fashion stage, and it remains one of our city’s most defining and influential brands," Dallas City Manager Kimberly Tolbert said in a statement. "We celebrate the decision to keep the Downtown Neiman Marcus store open through the 2025 holiday shopping season, and we will continue to collaborate with Saks Global Executive Chairman Richard Baker so that Neiman Marcus continues to thrive right here on Main Street, where it belongs.”
In March, though, after weeks of exchanges between Dallas officials, Saks Global and Downtown Dallas Inc. on the issue, Saks Global said it planned to keep the flagship store open through the 2025 holiday season while the company "explores a reimagination of the location in collaboration with the city of Dallas." The company said at the time that The Zodiac Room restaurant and the Bridal Salon would remain open as well.
The moves came after Saks Global acquired Neiman Marcus Group in a nearly $2.7 billion deal last year.
Neiman Marcus, which has been an iconic part of Dallas’ cultural fabric for more than 100 years, was founded in 1907 by Abraham Lincoln "Al" Neiman, his wife Carrie Marcus Neiman and his brother-in-law Herbert Marcus Sr.
Its original store location was at the intersection of Elm Street and North Field Street. But the building burned down in 1914 in a fire, and by the end of the year, the company opened in a new location at Main Street and Ervay Street, where it has remained ever since and will remain for now.
