You may or may not like ex-KGO broadcasters, Pat Thurston and John Rothmann but you loved them when an important news event took place, like the Pelosi hammer attack and its reverberations around the city and country. KGO, even in its marginalized post-2011 iterations was more than a radio station, it was a community venting zone and it served a purpose--a place to discuss politics, breaking news, earthquakes and the like.
I became more critical and annoyed by the day with John Rothmann's insistance to take cooky calls from the Trump amen corner --I also didn't care for his over-the-top "outraged" and "appalling" reactions to certain events and incidents but I've never doubted Rothmann's political acumen and presidential politics expertise--they're both ripe for discussion and enjoyable. I'll miss Rothmann's broadcast on Election night and am bummed, (like a lot of you) that we have so little to tune into, from a radio standpoint, on Election Day and night. Which makes the KGO debacle#3 more of an insult, thanks FCC. *NEW RULES: enough with political rants on this blog, I'm tired of threads that turn into "dems, good, repubs, bad" and vice versa. This is a MEDIA blog that delves into media and the people that make it happen, not an outpost for venting on the ills of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. I'm tired of it, especially those of you who make it a habit to SHOUT and use capital letters. No more. *Yes, of course I RIP people and I'm critical which is why you come here; to read my NO BS spin and agree or disagree. Sometimes it gets personal, (not my choice) but as I've said a gazillion times, I DO NOT HIDE behind this keyboard and make anonymous insults, my name is right up there on the mast head for you to see. It's a far cry from the misfits who regularly trash me, annonymously of course, and take pot shots without IDing themselves, one a former comedian and talk-show host on KGO who dishes it but can't take it. *The pushback at KTVU over the remarks from Mike Mibach's comments --off air--about jock straps, have reached a critical mass; Mibach has tried to put all jock-talk aside but it's still a source of discomfort from the various female staffers, including, notably, Julie Haener. *Haener's showing up on Saturday nights to anchor news is not so unusual because that way, she can ask for multiple days off and she will soon do so. Good for her, I couldn't care less. *KPIX anchor, Anne Makovec, quietly, is MAJOR pissed off that her desire to work more prime time has slowed. PIX and ND, Lisa White in particular, apparently are not on the Makovec bandwagon. *By the way, at PIX, will someone there tell me what White is doing because I haven't a clue. The drapes still look worn and tattered and White's DNA is all over them. Telling anchors to stand for 30 minutes hardly qualifies as revolutionary program technique. *As they did several times the past few months, KRON BEAT, slightly, KGO (ABC7) at 6 PM--if they accomplish it in November Sweeps, then the party can start. *Mike Nicco was not one of my favorites at ABC7 mainly because he took himself way too seriously and that may have hastened his move to KC because his Circle7 bosses thought he was sort of a jerk, maybe harsh but honest nonetheless. KC, especially its downtown loft district isn't such a bad place and the BBQ is great--until the first snow storm arrives in January. *The SF RADIO RATINGS are out; yes, KCBS did well and why not? They're the only news station in town! KQED doesn't count. KNBR managed to confirm they're a shitty sports station and 95.7 The Game is but a flatlining entity on FM. KGO, the betting station actually showed a pulse. Good odds. ***READERS: $UPPORT the blog. Now! 415 Media is 100% reader-supported and your donations and contributions make the blog sustainable.
