The Executive Director issued her report to UNEA-7 in two parts. The first part focuses on emerging and urgent environmental issues that the Assembly may wish to address during its December 2025 session. These include water resource management, nutrient pollution, mineral governance, stratospheric protection, and the environmental footprint of artificial intelligence. These topics aim to reinforce the collective determination of the international community to ensure a vibrant and balanced environment that supports humanity’s progress toward peaceful, prosperous, and thriving societies. “By targeting water resource management, nutrient pollution, mineral governance, stratospheric protection, and AI’s environmental footprint, Member States can uphold and strengthen UNEA’s mission to protect the planet and safeguard the well-being of current and future generations.” The second part of the report takes a broader view, reflecting on UNEA’s evolution over the past decade. It draws lessons from its first ten years and explores how the Assembly can continue to grow as a vital platform for global environmental governance. This reflection aims to ensure UNEA remains responsive, inclusive, and effective in addressing the complex environmental challenges of our time. (责任编辑:) |
