Many of the typical snowbird locations (southern AZ, Florida and locations along the Gulf) have somewhat reasonably priced short term rental apartments that are furnished with all the necessities. However, many of the sunbird locations listed sound very expensive (CA, Cape Cod, Asheville, AZ, CO, and MT mountains, etc.) to rent during peak months. Others (midwest lake locations) may not offer short term rentals or offer mostly larger VRBO homes that are appropriate for families but expensive for 1-2 people. As a single woman, I find that VRBOs are not that good of a deal and are similar in price to a hotel and I cannot handle an RV and would also be concerned about safety/security. My hunch is that finding a reasonably priced short term sunbird rental (e.g., less than $2K a month) is more challenging than finding a snowbird rental.

Edited: I see there are reasonable VRBO monthly rentals in Asheville although it is a little hot for me - mid 80s in the south during the summer.
