Jack Palmer DPhil Student

Jack joined the Tait Group in 2021, affiliated with Worcester College. He studies the photovoltaic mechanism of organic solar cells by continuous-wave, pulse and transient Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, to understand the role of electron spins in the fundamental mechanism of light-to-electricity conversion.

Born in London, Jack also undertook his MChem at the University of Oxford (2017 - 2021), at Lady Margaret Hall. His final-year Part II project was within the group of Professor Philip Kukura, quantitatively connecting protein charge to light scattering with a spectroscopic technique known as mass photometry. As part of his DPhil in the Tait Group, Jack spent the summer of 2023 working in the group of Professor Stefan Stoll, at the University of Washington, Seattle, designing a simulation package for modelling of the time-dependent evolution of photoinduced spin polarisation.

In his free time, Jack plays for the University golf team, (attempts to) win pub quizzes and turns out for the Worcester MCR football team as the self-proclaimed Oxford Iniesta.
